5Comments A black spot

Monday, August 6, 1945

I was at Hiroshima port for booking a ticket to Australia. It was necessary for safety of my family. As an ex-military officer, I knew something is gonna go wrong. And I think they knew it too. America gave us a warning. But nobody listened. I got fired instead for protesting against attacks. Well, may be its for good. I thought I'll shift to Australia with my family n live in peace for a few years.

So there I was talking to people at Hiroshima port and I heard noise. I looked above and saw a small black spot far away above main city. Wait, I know what it was, It was an Atomic Bomb. Yeah, there was nuclear attack on Hiroshima city. My city...

Almost automatically, I ran and jumped in the water. My skin burned. I knew it'll affect less in water so I started swimming. There was no hope for my family. They are all dead. For sure. and I'll be dead too, unless I go as long as possible from this place. Hiroshima port is far away from actual city. but not far enough. The fact that my skin got burned by the flash means It's sure gonna affect me. No point in turning back. No transports gonna help. Reaching nearby island was the only option.

Focus. Keep swimming. Focus. I kept saying to myself. I swam n swam n swam of hours.. and finally I reached Miyajima island. I was exhausted. I don't remember what happened after that but I think I lost my conscience and people helped me. They heard my story. They gave me food. They gave me place to stay. They gave me cloths. They gave me some money. They were so helpful.
At night, I cried a lot.. for my family.. friends.. relatives.. neighbors.. They were all dead... and for no reason.. just like that..

Next day, I called my sister who was living in different city. Now she was my only relative. She asked me to come to her place. And made me say yes. I thanked all people who helped me and took a boat to Kyoteijomae. I decided to go to Kurokawa by train and then after that by bus via express highway. It was horrible journey. more than a days journey and nothing to do. I remembered the blast again and again. I was not sure if I should call myself lucky. No family, no home, no money is actually like a punishment. I didn't touch newspapers. They were all full of one and only one thing - atomic bomb at Hiroshima.

I reached my sisters house in the evening. I told her whole story.. again..   But this time it was not that painful. Staying with someone you know really helps. Lets forget it for now. There's always a new day. I ate dinner with that thought in my mind. I said good night to my sister and was about to go to my bedroom, I heard a loud sound. I looked out of window.
It was August 9 at around 10:45 at night. I was looking out of a window of a house in Nagasaki city. And I saw a black spot in the sky... Again... And this time it was right above me...

For tomorrow is another day
well that is what we always say
but does optimism always help?
Oh life's such a delusional play...

3Comments An 'I' for an 'I'...

We friends had a solid discussion that day while coming from mumbai to back to pune...
The discussion was about changes in view towards other people... friends, relatives or general acquaintances...

one of the friend's view is worth telling..
so here it is. -
He said,
We all are becoming more and more selfish these days... See... We dunno who lives in neighborhood unless we want to borrow so sugar...
We hangout with friends if there's absolutely nothing to do. If we have LOST or PB on comp then we just 'hang the phone' instead of 'hangout' saying "Not today, buddy"...
In fact, when someone's dead we become sad not because 'He was a good man'... but because 'now I'm not going to get such a good time' anymore...

Approach towards "the others" is changing...
We all are nothing but liars... A good friend is one who can lie better than other "friends"...
'I love you' means I love you temporarily.. till i get better one...

I say I hangout with friends a lot... we go to movies... to vaishali... relax... but the reality is I hangout because I don't have any other better means to pass that time...

I personally don't approve this philosophy... But, I don't see any points which proves it wrong...

----- The Day -----

Kinda middle aged but still old looking Mr. John was a businessman. Business was small. He had a home downtown and was living there with family. John was neither famous nor too socially attached to anyone other that his family, wife Natalie, 15 yr old daughter Kate and 8 yr old son Bill.

It was Bill's Birthday. That night they all were having dinner as usual.
Bill "Dad, I want bike. All of my friends have their own bike"
"No Bill, you are too young for that. ask something else."
"But dad... Please..."
(Doorbell rings)
"Honey, will you just check who's there"
"Sure"

Natalie went to open door.
"Hello. I'm Mr. Neil. and This is Mr. David Is Mr. John home ?" Said one of the two guys.
"Yeah. He's home. Can you just wait for a second ?" said Natalie.
"Sure"

Natalie went inside and asked John to see them.
John went in Hall. He didn't recognize any of those men.
"Hey. I'm john. I don't think I know you people. Do I ?" john asked.
"You are right, you don't."

And suddenly, both removed their hands from pocket, with Revolver in their hands.
"Gimme keys to your locker" roared David.
John almost cried "Take whateva u want. just don't hurt us"

Natalie heard that noise came running outside. She saw those men with guns and shouted like hell with fear.
There was a total chaos. already panicked David pulled trigger. and John was shot dead on the spot. Natalie ran inside. Those two followed her. Now Neil pulled trigger. Bullet hit Natalie in chest.

They both went inside dining room. Little Bill was standing in one corner. crying... They saw phone in Kates hand. Kate was calling 911 emergency. David pulled trigger again without even thinking a bit. Bullet went through Kate's skull. and she was down too.

David aimed at Bill now. Neil saw that fearful face of Bill. He pushed David's hand and yelled "No. Wait !! He's just a boy..."
But It was too late. David had already pulled trigger. But because of that push bullet went through Bill's right leg instead of head.
Bill fell on the floor. He closed his eyes with pain and fear.

----- The Next Day -----

The next day, Bill was in the hospital. Police, neighbors, press lot of crowd around him. He was in total "Shock". He was sitting on wheelchair. He had lost his leg. Above that he had lost his whole family. He was now alone in this world. His eyes were aimless. He not even tried listening what police, press were asking him. He didn't speak a word.. to anyone...

----- The Day After 10 Years -----

Its been 10 years since that day, but Bill's still in a Shock. Haven't spoken a word since that day. His eyes are still aimless. It's almost as if he's in coma. Doctors have given up on Bill...
Bill's now 18yrs old and still couldn't ride a bike because of his right leg.

Still No feelings... No Leg... No Family.... almost as if No life....

Those two robbers are in jail now. People know full story about that day. People still are confused...
Whether it was Nice of Neil to spare Bill or Cruel of him...

----- X -----

(what I'm asking is whether this life of Bill is even worse than death or not)

(waiting for your comments... coz even if the work is purely fictional, i'm really confused...)

6Comments Next 1000 seconds after those 10 seconds

That night I was coming back from Mumbai to Pune... Regular travels... night journey... after lonavala, we were only 15 of us in that volvo... i was sitting on backside...left side window seat.. and there was only one passenger in that side of volvo. I was sitting enjoying soft music... and then there was one BANG... i realized twas not a part of that music track and after a split of a second my head slammed on a backside of seat next to me... (oh man, they should use cushion for backside of seats too) in next 10 seconds the bus was tilted totally to left and again BANG! the only thing i could see thro' window were sparks... bus was still moving... after few more seconds there was silence... I was so shocked... took me at least 2 mins to realize the whole scene...
My leg was stuck between next seat and the left side of bus... somehow i managed to pull it off. I stood there on the road... just a thin layer of glass window between... the other passenger who was with me was still "sleeping".. unconscious may be.. The only thing i wanted achieve at that time was getting out... I saw the handles of seats... put them in right way... n then used them as ladder of 4-5 steps... Afta 3rd step i realised the 'plastic glass' window is still intact... Glass may be the brittle substance... but considering strength left and also the position i was in, twas the hardest material for me... after 10-12 kicks there was a hole big enough to pass through...
After next few minutes I was outside... standing on right side of bus... I saw one car upside down... red color on the road... few people... I jumped on the road... Let me tell you... Climbing up is the easiest job compared to jumping down when you are hurt... Pain... Was blanked for few seconds.. again... Then some guys came... gave me water... I told them there are other ppl in the bus... unconscious... they went to help them...
After the whole incidence I realized that I should have helped that guy... the guy sitting with me on the back side... there was water bottle in my sack... at least just to check whether he's conscious or not... But I didn't.... I dunno why... May be I was shocked... May be I was afraid that he might be dead... But then I realized... My first aim, like anyone other in that bus, was to "Survive"...
